It’s gone. Wiped out, missing in action, adios, outta here, left the building, cleaned out, shut down, turned off, silent…
This week through a strange coincident, my email box is gone. My husband was working with our internet company when the guy on the phone line said, “Oops.” In one small second my entire email box is gone. After further phone calls, the email address is now back on line, but it is merely an empty shell of what it was. Gone are all those email chats we’ve had and the crazy photos. Gone are all the sentimental “send this to 10 friends immediately” emails and the bizarre advertisements junk mail. Gone is the need to clean out my in-box. Hmmm, maybe this is not such a bad thing after all.
I am reminded of another event in scripture that will change our lives in one second - when the Lord returns for us. In the twinkling of an eye, we will be changed. There will be a resemblance of our current physical state, but we will be new, different. All of the old and ugly parts of our sinful flesh will be gone. It will be a fresh start, a clean slate as we step into eternity. We will leave this world behind us - we’re out of here. Now that’s the kind of change I’m looking forward to!
I Corinthians 15: 51-52: Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.
